Personal statement: I feel privileged to have spent so many years teaching wonderful children and young people. It was not without regret that I made the decision to retire. I view it as a shift in my life, not a cessation of musical activities. That Primavera Place, its structure, its teachers and its mission of high-quality Suzuki education will continue to nourish the community of students and parents in the school is personally very gratifying. Primavera Place will continue to grow and flourish in the coming years. I know that I will miss my students, but I feel very good about the wonderful young teachers they will have the opportunity to study with!
Master Teacher
Dr. Spring taught music to young people for over a half century. For 37 years he was a university professor (Otterbein & Walla Walla Universities) teaching violin, viola, theory/composition, orchestra & chamber music. He holds degrees in violin, theory, and composition from La Sierra and Texas Christian Universities, and the University of Washington. Among his teachers were William Kroll & Emanuel Zetlin (violin) and John Verrall, Robert Suderberg, Ralph Guenther & Perry Beach (composition.)
Personal Statement: During the 1990’s Spring began to add summer teaching of younger students to his activities, and found it very much to his liking. After retiring from university professorship in 2001, pre-college music teaching became his primary professional focus, along with composing on commission from various artists and ensembles.
